We’re on a mission to make sharing work for everyone, because we believe sharing – spaces, stories, mutual understanding and respect – is what makes us human.
Minut believes in being good neighbors, wherever we are. We offer products and services for the short term rental market that help guests, hosts and neighbors get along. Easy-to-use, quick to install, and affordable, our products ensure sharing homes is good for everyone, including communities.Minut was founded by four Swedes working in China and San Francisco. Today we are 35 technologists, engineers, inventors and social scientists, from eight nationalities, working across Sweden, the UK and the US.
Minut began with a question: Is it possible to monitor a home, without monitoring the people within it?
It was 2009 when the question struck. Minut cofounder Nils Mattisson was living in the San Francisco Bay Area while working in the exploratory design group at Apple. Airbnb was just getting started, the app landscape was taking hold, and privacy was presumed dead.
The question continued to play on his mind over the coming years. As Airbnb took off and big tech often traded on privacy, it became un-ignorable. In search of answers, Nils joined up with three fellow Swedes, Marcus Ljungblad, Fredrik Ahlberg and Martin Lööf, who shared his passion for technology, privacy and community, and tackling unsolved challenges. After securing a place on Hax’s accelerator programme, they met in person for the first time at the top of a freight elevator in Shenzhen and got to work. The first device and app was built over many sleepless nights, non-stop days, and steaming bowls of hand-pulled noodles. And as a vote of confidence, they raised $238k on Kickstarter in 30 days to get going.
Today, as questions of privacy, trust and sharing become ever more vital, Minut continues to break new ground to become world leaders in privacy safe hosting.
