How to get started

The installation should only take 15 minutes or less.

1. Download the app

  • Download the Minut app from the Google Play Store or iOS App Store.
  • Open the app and create your account. If you already have an account, just open the Minut app and log in.
  • Create your first home following the steps in the app.
  • Once your home is ready, tap on the “+” sign in the top right corner to start the installation process.

If you don’t want to use the smart features of this alarm, you can skip to step 2.

2. Install alarm

Not sure where to install your alarm? Scroll down for tips.

  • Secure the plastic mounting bracket to the ceiling with screws. Use a 3/16-inch (5-millimeter) drill bit. Put the alarm away to protect it from dust while you drill.
  • Install the battery that came with the alarm. This battery will power the Wi-Fi and connectivity features of the device. It does not affect the core alarm functionality.
  • Attach alarm to mounting plate by twisting it clockwise until you hear a click. The alarm will automatically turn on.
  • Pull on the alarm to make sure it is securely attached.

3. Finish configuration in the app and test

  • Stay in the same room as the alarm while you finish configuration in the app.
  • Press the test button on the alarm to check if it works properly. If the installation was successful, a loud siren will sound.

You can schedule automated tests in the Minut apps. Go to the Settings tab and choose “Smoke & CO alarm.”

Where should I install my alarm?

Smoke & CO alarm regulations vary by state. Check the requirements in your area before deciding where to install your smoke alarms.

It’s usually recommended to install a smoke alarm in all rooms, halls, storage areas, basements, and attics. For minimum coverage, consider installing one alarm on each floor and one in each sleeping area.

Never install Minut A1 outdoors.
Do not install within 5 ft (1.5 m) of any cooking appliance.
Avoid moisture, excessive light or high temperature.
Install in the center of the ceiling for shortest reaction time. It can’t be any closer than 20 in (50 cm) from corner or wall.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a new device to an existing home?

In the mobile app, go to the Homes tab and pick the home you want to add your device to. Scroll down to the “Devices” section and press the + sign to add a new device.

How do I turn the alarm on? Where is the power button?

You turn on the alarm when you attach it to the mounting bracket for the first time. That’s when the alarm’s 10-year battery gets activated. You cannot turn off the alarm.

Do I need to use Bluetooth to install the alarm?

Yes, you will need to use Bluetooth to install the alarm, so make sure to turn it on in your smartphone settings. The Minut app will guide you step by step.

How do I use the Minut API?

In order to have a custom integration, you will need access to Minut's API. Minut's API is available on our Pro plan subscription. You can read more about custom integrations with the Minut API here.

How can I upgrade my plan?

You can manage your plan in the My Account section of our web app. Navigate to the Plan, Billing & Payments tab, then scroll down and click on Change Plan.

How can I update the Wi-Fi settings?

You can update your Wi-Fi settings in the mobile app:


  1. Open the Minut app, and navigate to the Homes tab.
  2. Select the home that you want to update the Wi-Fi setting for.
  3. Scroll down to the “Devices” section.
  4. Tap the Minut sensor you want to update Wi-Fi settings for.
  5. Navigate to Advanced settings and press the “Update Wi-Fi settings” button.
  6. Follow the instructions in the app.
