Minut rolls out AI-powered marijuana detection to ensure high standards in rental properties
  • New update means Minut detects both marijuana and cigarette smoke in properties
  • Property managers can eliminate fire risk of smoking and prevent damage to furniture
  • Minut issues immediate smoking alerts to both short- and long-term property managers

London, UK, 21 October 2024 — Minut, the privacy-safe property operations platform, has today announced that its AI-powered smoke detection now monitors for both marijuana and tobacco use, tackling yet another chronic issue for property managers

Minut devices can now detect when either tobacco or marijuana smoke is present in a property, as well as monitor for excessive noise, humidity and temperature. Property managers receive a notification when smoke is detected, enabling them to intervene promptly.

All incidents can be compiled into custom reports, allowing managers of long-term rentals to track smoking incidents over weeks or even months to address persistent tenant issues.

Smoking of any kind not only poses a fire risk, it can also damage furniture and upholstery, while the scent and any associated anti-social behavior can also negatively impact neighbors. With Minut’s devices and communication materials to de-escalate complicated situations, property managers now have an extra tool to solve smoking issues.

Minut devices use intelligent on-device processing to detect problems without intruding on the privacy of those inside. This AI-powered detection uses simple environmental factors and machine learning to identify issues. Minut devices are manufactured in the company’s hometown of Malmö, Sweden, overseen by its Apple and Google alumni engineers.

Nils Mattisson, CEO and Co-Founder of Minut, said:

“Smoking of any kind has no place inside a rental, whether you’re a permanent resident living in an apartment building, or a guest staying in a vacation home for a few days. Our latest update shows our dedication to keeping living spaces clean, safe and neighborly.
“Many problems when we’re living close together arise from anti-social behavior, including smoking, noise, or parties, and these can have a real impact on neighbors’ mental health. Putting a stop to these behaviors can make our neighborhoods safer and happier, as well as retaining tenants for longer, and making areas more desirable. This is all key to building happy and accepting communities.”
